ARC Raiders Free to Play Oct 8-12 for Frozen Trail Launch

Embark Studios is throwing the doors open. Starting tomorrow, October 8, ARC Raiders will be completely free to play for four days, and the timing is no coincidence: the free weekend lands exactly on the launch of Frozen Trail, the biggest update the extraction shooter has received since release.

The free period runs from October 8 at 9:00 AM UTC through October 12 at 8:00 AM UTC, and it’s available on Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox. This isn’t a trimmed-down demo — newcomers get access to the full game, the core PvPvE extraction experience with nothing locked behind a paywall. There’s one smart design decision worth calling out: anyone who groups up with a veteran who has already unlocked the new Pendola Pass map can jump straight into it, without grinding through the unlock path first. During a four-day trial, that shortcut matters.

And Pendola Pass is the headline. Frozen Trail’s new map pushes beyond the Rust Belt into a snow-covered corner of Italy, built around an old village and a former Exodus transport hub dominated by the wreckage of a fallen Emperor Arc. The map leans on verticality — an abandoned supermarket, a town square, an observatory — and a new Flash Freeze weather sequence that can force everyone to find shelter at a moment’s notice.

The machines are getting deadlier too. Three new ARC enemies join the roster: the Bully, which aggressively closes distance; the Skulker, which lurks at the edge of your vision before striking; and the Hydra, a three-section autonomous turret found aboard the Frigate. That last one deserves its own mention — the Frigate is an enormous airborne ARC vessel Raiders can board, fighting machines and rival players through its interior hundreds of feet in the air.

On the gear side, Frozen Trail adds the Stiletto battle rifle and Bantam revolver, plus the long-requested Grappling Hook, a Tether Launcher, and a Yank Grenade. Fifteen existing weapons gain a fifth quality level through the new Amplified Weapons system, which can meaningfully change how a favorite gun behaves. The update also folds the old Raider Deck system into Reward Passes with Free and Premium tiers, adds a customizable Outpost base with a Research Workstation, and even hands players a functioning camera with a selfie mode.

Veteran Raiders have one deadline to remember: the old Cred currency is retired when Frozen Trail launches, so any unspent Cred vanishes on October 8.

The bigger picture is that Embark needs this to land. The game sold over 16 million copies since its October 2025 launch, but daily Steam peaks have slid from more than 400,000 early this year to the tens of thousands, and a rival — Bulkhead’s Wardogs — has been eating into the genre’s attention. A free weekend paired with the largest update in the game’s history is the strongest win-back hand Embark could play, with one caveat: community reaction has focused as much on anti-cheat as on content, and an influx of free accounts is exactly the conditions cheaters thrive in. Embark has promised stricter enforcement with “no warnings, no second chances” — the whole promotion may rest on that holding up.
