ARC Raiders and The Finals Are Headed to Film and TV

Hollywood has officially come knocking for Embark Studios’ two biggest shooters. On Monday, October 5, Nexon-owned developer Embark Studios announced a deal with Chernin Entertainment — the film and TV division of The North Road Company — to develop film and television adaptations of both ARC Raiders and The Finals.

According to a report by Variety, Chernin didn’t just get the rights handed over: it won a bidding competition against several other production companies and studios that were chasing the two properties. Chernin is now set as the lead producer on the TV series and movie projects, though the announcement didn’t spell out exactly which format each game will get — or when any of it will arrive. No writers, directors, cast members, networks, or distributors have been named yet, so these projects are clearly in the early stages.

Patrick Söderlund, Embark’s founder and CEO who has since become Nexon executive chairman, said the deal is “the next big step in growing ARC Raiders and The Finals into deeply integrated transmedia experiences that reward the passion of our global player community.” Perhaps more reassuring for fans: Embark’s own creative teams will work closely with Chernin throughout the process to make sure the character and world-building that define both games carry over to the screen. David Ready, president of film at Chernin Entertainment, described the two games as “ambitious global IP with the potential to become major franchises across film and television,” pointing to the atmospheric, story-rich worlds Embark has built.

And the numbers back up the ambition. ARC Raiders, the extraction shooter set on a future Earth overrun by machines known as the ARC, has sold more than 16 million copies since launching on October 30, 2025. It was named best multiplayer game at the 2025 Game Awards, online game of the year at the 29th D.I.C.E. Awards, and best multiplayer at the 2026 BAFTA Games Awards — all while players await the Frozen Trail content update landing on October 7. The Finals, Embark’s free-to-play shooter set inside a virtual combat game show with physics-driven environmental destruction, has pulled in roughly 30 million players in three years, with its Season 12 update arriving October 20.

Chernin is no stranger to big genre swings: recent credits include the Backrooms movie, Netflix’s Man on Fire, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, and the Fear Street trilogy. It’s the kind of partner that suggests Nexon is aiming high rather than just licensing the names out.

The move also slots neatly into gaming’s ongoing Hollywood gold rush. It follows Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil topping the box office, and joins a crowded slate of announced adaptations including a Helldivers movie next year, Elden Ring and Call of Duty films in 2028, and the long-awaited The Legend of Zelda movie.

For Embark fans, the timing is interesting: ARC Raiders is still riding the wave of its first-year success while The Finals heads into its fourth year of live updates. If these adaptations land right, they could bring a whole new audience back into both games — exactly the cross-media loop Nexon says it’s building toward.
